5th grade science wrapped up their unit on Structures and Properties of Matter by reading Pancakes Pancakes by Eric Carle and sorting physical/chemical changes that took place in the book.
Mrs. Flynn and Mrs. Moreland cooked pancakes accompanied by a serving of syrup so their students could see the process of a chemical change as the pancake batter took in heat, changed odor, changed color, and changed substance! Students truly thought their science teachers were gourmet chefs! LOL 👩🍳😂

Mrs. Chase and Mrs. Burgess’ 4th grade classes are working on understanding sound. Today we learned that sound needs a medium to travel. Students represented speakers, air blobs, and a windshield. The goal was to get the vibration to the windshield. We also discussed sound in space (where there is no air), could we still hear sound without air?

After revising our social contract in Project Lead the Way at FMS, students were challenged to work collaboratively as a team to design and build the tallest freestanding structure from 3 pieces of paper and 70 cm of tape. The structure had to stay standing for a minimum of 20 seconds with light windy conditions. Our tallest tower was 37 inches from Mrs. Fry's homeroom with a close second 36 inches from Mrs. M. Miller's homeroom.
